“I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”  John 10:28

This spring, I had the privilege of taking a “Perspectives” Bible study with a group of people from several churches.  It was an enlightening time for me, as I learned about the birth of Christianity, the history of the Church, and to modern times  As a climax to the 14-week course, we visited a Muslim Mosque in our city, toured the church and school and listened to a presentation on what Islam teaches.  It was interesting from a Christian perspective.  I asked a few questions and received some surprising information on what they believe.  I’ll share a few differences with you…

God

Christianity:  Only one God – a triune being called God or Yahweh

Islam:  Only one God – Allah

Jesus:

Christianity:  Divine Son of God, virgin born.  He is God’s Word and Savior of mankind.

Islam:  A prophet who was virgin-born, but not the Son of God.

Crucifixion:

Christianity:  A fact of history necessary for the atonement of sin and salvation of believers. (1 Cor. 2:2)

Islam:  Jesus was not crucified.  Someone substituted for Jesus, He hid until He could meet with disciples.

Trinity:

Christianity:  One God revealed in three coequal persons:  God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).

Islam:  a blasphemy belief in three gods, mistakenly thought to be God, Jesus and Mary.

Sin:

Christians:  Sin is rebellion against God and grieves Him, ALL have sinned (Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12).

Islam:  Sin is disobedience to the established law.  Sin does not grieve Allah.

Man:

Christians:  Man is created in God’s image and is sinful by nature.  (Romans 5:12)

Islam:  Man is created by Allah and is sinless

Salvation:

Christians:  Salvation is a gift accepted by faith through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross and provided through God’s grace (John 10:28).

Islam:  Salvation achieved by obeying the will of Allah, no assurance of salvation—granted by Allah’s mercy.

Bible:

Christians:  The inspired Word of God, complete and nothing to be added to it.  (Revelation 22:18-19)

Islam:  Muslims accept the Books of Moses, Psalms, and the Gospels if they agree with the Qur’an (their holy book).

There are many more differences in their beliefs concerning angels, the resurrection and many truths that we hold dear.  We can trust God’s Word as it leads us and guides us into all Truth.  Muslims have no eternal security, at the end of life it depends on how good they have been, good deeds remove evil deeds.  Allah forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He pleases.  Jesus said, “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:28. Christians who are “born of God” KNOW where they are going and WHO they believe in!  We can build our lives on that firm foundation!  Praise His Name!!
