“He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ.” Ephesians 1:9

This is the time of year when I like to curl up with a good book and sit in front of the fire with a cup of steaming hot tea. Where I live in the northern Midwest of the US, we have short days and long, cold winters. Most of January is spent indoors. Some of us like to read history books, some like autobiographies, but my favorites are mysteries! I like to figure out the plot and see if I can come up with the solution. Some people even like to read the last chapter to see the final outcome before they go to bed!

The Apostle Paul must have liked mysteries because he talks about them in the epistles, especially the book of the Ephesians. This time of year might be a good opportunity to do a little Bible study on your own about this subject.  I have found at least 10 Mysteries and you might find more. Take a pad of paper and pen, sit in a comfortable chair with hot tea or coffee in hand and look up these verses.

  1. The Mystery of Christ in you – Colossians 1:27
  2. The Mystery of the Kingdom of Heaven – Matthew 13:11
  3. The Mystery of Israel’s blindness – Romans 11:25-26
  4. The Mystery of the Gospel – Romans 16:25-26, Ephesians 6:19-20
  5. The Mystery of the Rapture of the church – 1 Corinthians 15:51-55
  6. The Mystery of the Church – Ephesians 5:25-32
  7. The Mystery of Godliness – 1 Timothy 3:16
  8. The Mystery of Lawlessness – 2 Thessalonians 2:7
  9. The Mystery of Babylon the Great – Revelation 17:1-18
  10. The Mystery of the Age of Grace – Ephesians 3:1-12

Just in Ephesians 3, the apostle Paul mentions the word “mystery” six times in the NKJV version of the Bible. They are: the mystery of Christ, the mystery of Christ and the church, the mystery of revelation, the mystery of sufferings, the mystery of the grace of God, and the mystery of the unsearchable riches of Christ!! That’s a lot of mysteries!! Look them up and be blessed!
