A few years ago one of our Presidents stood on the deck of a large Aircraft carrier to declare the end of the war in Afganistan. Behind him a large banner proclaimed “Mission Accomplished!”. Except it wasn’t. The war dragged on. He meant well, he was sincere but even with all his power he was unable to complete the task.
This past week in my quiet time I read about the mission of Jesus, “When the days drew near for Him to be taken up, He set His face to go to Jerusalem”. Luke 9:51. He had a plan! A purpose! He was going to the cross! “Behold, I have come to do your will, O God”. Heb. 10:7
When Paul wanted to describe His mission to Timothy he wrote, ” Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”. 1 Tim. 1:10 Was He able to do it? On the cross Jesus gave a loud shout of victory when the work of saving sinners was accomplished, ” It is finished!” John 19:30 The greatest victory cry in the history of the world!
He did it! Mission accomplished! How do we know? Because God the Father raised Him from the dead and SEATED HIM at His own right hand in heaven! Hebrews 10:12
So, is the going tough? Getting discouraged? “Consider Him who endured such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or faint hearted”. Heb. 12:3
Jesus, the Great Completer and Finisher is waiting for you at the finish line to welcome you! Keep your eyes on Him!
