I woke up this morning thinking about words of a little song, ” His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me”. That will wake you up with a bang! When I got out of bed and walked into the bathroom I was greeted by a little soap dish sitting there that has 3 sparrows overlooking the dish! It was given to me by the daughter of a very dear Christian friend and they included a handwritten card with this verse “Are not 5 sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6,7. It was Jesus that said that! It was pretty meaningful to me because I was going through chemo and losing my hair. Does God care about my hair? Yes , Jesus said so!

When I was just a little toddler I had thick, curly blond hair. Women were always making comments about it. One day,my mother told me, a woman made a mother comment about my hair and ran her fingers through it. I was unhappy! Apparently, I called her a name and kicked her! Oh my!

I also love this (God) ” heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” Psalm 147:3,4 Friends, our God is a God of incredible detail and amazing compassion! He knows the names of all the stars! Billions of them! He knows every hair on your head! Not one sparrow falls to the ground that He doesn’t know about!

So today, whether you look in the mirror at your hair, look out the window and see the birds or look up tonight at the starry sky be REMINDED of a God who is all powerful, yet full of detailed knowledge of your life, full of compassion, who has it all under control!

You might even start humming ” I sing because I’m happy! I sing because I’m free! His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me”, Oh friend! What a God! What a friend we have in Jesus! Could you possibly want a better one?
