“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said,“Here am I, send me!” Isaiah 6:8

(Below is a story written by my good friend, Dan.  Read it….think about it…for your own encouragement.)

The year was 1991.  His heart had been moved by the stories that the team, just returning from Mongolia, had told in his Bible School.  He responded to the challenge to leave the security of South Korea and move to a place where no one would be there to meet him, help him, or encourage him in the work.  But he said “yes” to the Holy Spirit.

As Pastor “H” arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and started to exit the plane, he was greeted by cold blustery winds and temperatures of minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit.  All he had were the clothes he carried in his backpack and his Bible.  Then it hit him; “I don’t want to be here.”  He cried out to God ….he questioned his calling….he confessed that, though he knew he was called to Mongolia, he would fail and return home.  While finding a room in a hotel, he continued to struggle.  It was then that the Holy Spirit spoke to him and said, “My Son was born in a ‘horse house,’ a stable.  He often spent the lonely nights by the side of the road.  You are in a comfortable hotel.”  He confessed his fear and committed to be faithful to God.  In Mongolia, at that time, there was only one church and less than a dozen believers in the whole country.  Within a few years, God had allowed Pastor “H” to baptize more than 700 believers and see churches established in the cities, deserts and countryside!

Today, all around Mongolia we met people who were eternally impacted by a man who simply obeyed God and remained faithful.  He is a reminder that breakthrough only comes after being broken by God.  Success comes with a struggle, and the things in life that really matter, the eternal, are worth the price!

As Jim Elliott said so well, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”
