“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people,” Proverbs 14:34.

This week I had an opportunity to volunteer at a political rally in my city.  My daughter-in-law is an organizer for a political party and called me to say they needed a few more people.  My friend and I were given the job of seating people in the stands.  What an experience!  We made the most of the situation and decided we would have fun, regardless of the massive number of people!   Here are my favorite takeaways from the rally.

I was totally amazed at the number of times “God” was mentioned in a positive way!  Each time His Name was spoken in reverence, the crowd erupted in cheers and clapping!  I was overwhelmed at the response of the audience and thanked God!  The president requests a prayer before each rally.  The Chaplain for northwest Ohio began his prayer with the verse, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land,” 2 Chronicles 7:14.   The Chaplain went on to explain the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  It was obvious, he loved the Lord!  We were encouraged to pray for our nation!

When the president spoke, he assured the crowd of his commitment to keeping God in his administration.  Since he is pro-life, he believes babies are made in the image of God and should be protected by every means available.  Some of the arguments for an opposite pro-abortion stance include:  some people are overwhelmed by lack of money, health, mental capacity, education or supportive family members to help the mother.  All I can say to these arguments is, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14.   And here’s another verse to ponder, one of my favorites, the word of the Lord to Jeremiah:  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations,” Jeremiah 1:5.  It’s an incredible thought that God knew us before we were formed in our mother’s womb and set us apart with a “call” on our life!  If God can create a life, He will take care of the rest.  Our job is to trust Him!

The president assured us the name of God would be upheld in the pledge of allegiance, defend the freedoms of religious believers and organizations by allowing churches to remain open and allowing prayer in schools.  I thanked God and thought of the verse, “Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise Me will be disdained, 1 Samuel 2:30.  I’ve heard people say, “He’s just saying those things to get votes.”  However, in recent memory, I have not heard a person running for political office who has mentioned “God” as many times as our current president.  Possibly, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan spoke about God, but not to the extent that President Trump does.   I wonder if God is using an imperfect man to do His Work?    God used President Truman to return the Jews to their homeland in 1948. Exactly 70 years later, God used President Trump to bring the American Embassy to Jerusalem.  The name “Trump” means “trumpet!”  God is trustworthy, He has His plans for our world and they won’t be thwarted.  He can use anyone to bring about His purposes!  We need to do our part! “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people!”
